Preliminary Task
To film this short clip we were handed one tripod and one camera which was used to film the short clip, the tripod was used to help steady the camera and to keep it in one spot. We adjusted the tripod to the height that we thought was best and then screwed the camera to the tripod, and placed it down on one spot aiming the camera in the direction where we wanted to film the opening part of the clip. After we filmed the first scene we used a editing technique called match cut which is when you film someone walking towards the camera and then change the camera angle so the character is walking away from the camera which can be seen between 1 second and 6 seconds. This editing technique is effective as it makes the viewer feel that you are following the character, as well it makes the scene look smooth and easy to follow. 6 seconds into the clip we also used a close up of the character opening the door and then changed the positioning of the camera so you are able to see the character walk into the room. This is effective because it changes the setting because you get to see the character walk into the room which doesn't then confuse the audience. We then faced the camera at the person sitting at the table which allowed us to also get the other character walking over to his seat. From 14 seconds on wards we then used the 180 degree rule which is a imaginary line which allowed us to have the two characters talking to each other without crossing the line because if we crossed the line it would make it look like the characters are talking to themselves, which will then confuse the audience. Also from 14 seconds on wards we used another editing technique called shot reverse shot which is when we had one character talking and it would then switch to the other character and back again. This allowed us to have both characters talking to each other with out making the camera move across each time one speaks which will make the viewers dizzy.
A couple of things that went well was the way we used the tripod which helped us to keep the camera steady and to focus on the main object in the scene. Another thing that went well was that we were able to add different camera/editing techniques which meant that we could test out different techniques which we could add to our main film. A couple of things that didn't go very well was some of the volume/speech in some of the scenes, we had trouble with the sound because you couldn't really hear our voices during the clips which mean't that we had to re film the scene and make our voices louder so the camera could pick them up. Another problem we had was that we should of used some tape when we did the 180 degree rule because we didn't remember where we had the camera positioned which left us to try to remake the scene.
The software we used to edit this clip was called adobe premier elements 10, we used this to put together all of our filmed clips and to edit them to make it look different to become knowledge able with the different effects and editing techniques. We edited this by cutting down some scenes because will filmed it around 2 seconds before actually moving which gave us time to cut it down to make it look smoother and run better.
