(Online tutorials)

Examples of Make up Tutorials

This is a clip from YouTube on how to make your face look bruised, we decided to put this clip into our blog because it helped us get some ideas on make up which we could use in our filming after a fight scene to make it look more realistic and damaged.

This clip is also a make up video from YouTube on how to make body parts looked bruised, we decided to use this video to get some ideas on how we could make our selves look like we've been hit or punched on the face or body.

(Thriller genre conventions)

Thriller Conventions
These thriller conventions will help our group decide what we could have in our film, for example we will need to add some kind of music which will have to be intense because as our film is a action thriller film there will need to be some music to make the scenes more intense. Another convention is that there needs to be a strong story line because it needs to engage the audience and bring them along with the story, if the film doesn't have a strong and engaging story line it will lose the audience. There must also be reasonably quick cuts in a fight scene because it would make it look more realistic and interesting for people to watch, this means that the fights will be more intense and dramatic for both the actors and the audience. An antagonist driven plot is important for the film because it helps set the scene and create the story line which will help the audience connect with both the protagonist and the antagonist.

(Vlog)

Vlog 1

Setting

This is a small vlog which we filmed on November 30th, this vlog shows you the location where we are going to film. We thought this will be a good place to film because not many people walk pass the area as well it is quite and peaceful. This area also has trees which we will be handy for our filming because it helps create a setting and cover which can be used in our filming process. But this area had some issues because it was right next to a rail way track which meant around every 10 min a train will go past which will stop us from filming or re filming scenes.

(Storyboard)

Storyboard

This is our storyboard which was created using paint and then was added to adobe premier 10 elements where we pasted the images in and added some music into the background. The clip will include the main events of the film and which order it is going in. We then decide to do another story board which is not a cinematic and add more detail like the editing, sound and camera shots used.

Editing: Used to cut down certain parts of the scene to make it flow better, titles popping up

(Questionnaire)

Questionnaire

We decided to do a questionnaire because we wanted to get some ideas on what we should do in our film and what we could change to make it better. From the results we found out that most of our audience was male and between the ages of 12-15, from this we now know that are film is going to be a 12A because we want lots of people to watch it and we then know we cant add any graphic images or scenes.

(mood board on thriller)

Mood board on thriller

This is a mood board on thriller that we created. We created this on power point by copying and pasting images from the internet that we believed were linked to thriller and put them on to the page with a black background so the images stand out. We than added some words that we thought were related to thriller and added them onto the page.

(Script)

Script

This is our script for our film, this will be used to remember our lines and to see what next is to be filmed. This is our basic script which helps us to create our scenes and basic dialogue. My favorite part in this script is the fight scene because it has lots of action in it and leads to a big part in the film. This script has been edited a couple of times due to the changes we've made to the scenes in the film, for example we changed parts of the scenes it to make it work better and improve the story line.

(Film opening to a thriller movie)

Taken opening

This is the trailer for Taken which is an action thriller film. In the trailer you see a young female women which is the daughter of the main protagonist leave her parents to go on a holiday with her friends. Later the father gets a phone call from the daughter saying that someone has broken into their house and is looking around for something or someone, while shes on the phone the dad asks if she knows who it is and she say's no which then turns to her being kidnapped. While she is being taken the guy picks up the phone and starts to talk to the farther where the famous speech comes from which can be seen in the Taken 'phone scene'. Then you see the small shots of the father trying to get his daughter back, you also see explosions and lots of stunt scenes.

This is a chart from a website called Peal & Dean which is a website which you can get movie reviews and some information about the film. For example, this is a screen shot for the target audience for the film Taken, this shows us the age range, gender and the class for the film. This information will help us plan what ages and gender are film will appeal to, which means we will need to research different types of action thriller films and see what there needs to be included to make it appeal to a certain audience.

(opening title analysis)

opening title analysis

This title is good as it is in the middle of the screen which means it will catch the viewers eyes and will draw them in. As well the use of the blood splatter is effective as it brings a since of danger and violence to the image. This is effective to the viewers because it tells them a little about the film like what type of genre it may be, for example this title suggests it is a horror film because it has a splatter of blood on it which suggests someone has be hurt or killed.

This is also a good title as it is easy to see because the writing is white on a black background which makes it stand out and look appealing. The font also makes it stand out because it has a slight shadow behind it which makes it look sinister and uneasy. This is effective to the viewers because it tells them a little bit about the film, for example in this one the font makes it look like it is a horror or thriller film.

The last title is also good because the font makes the writhing stand out and look old because the letters have longer flicks added onto them. This is also good because it is in the middle of the screen which makes it easy to see and the colour is just right which because it is see able while making it look mysterious. This is effective to the viewers because it tells you a little bit about the film through the title, for example this title suggests that this film is going to be an action/action adventure film.

(Actors, Props and Interviews)

Actors, Props and Interviews

Actor: Callum                                        Actor: Kevin                               Cameraman: Ruslan

Interview

This is our interviews about our film, these interviews will answer most questions about the film. These questions will give you information about our films story line, setting and name, as well it also gives you information on how we came up with our ideas and who we are trying to appeal to which are males aged between 15-25.

We will be only using one prop for our film which is a certain coat which will be worn by the protagonist because it makes him look important and smart.

The actors will include Kevin who is going to be the antagonist and Callum who is going to be the protagonist.

The equipment we used to film this was apart of the school, we used a camera and tripod to film this and when we finished filming it we uploaded onto our computer and then edited it.

(Costume and Locations)

Costume and Location

This is one of our costumes which will be used in our filming. This will be worn by the protagonist because it makes him look smart and stands out from what other people would be wearing. One of our group members came across this jacket in their wardrobe and thought it would be a great costume for the protagonist to wear.

These two pictures are of our filming location which is located next to a railway track behind an old youth club which is around a five minuet walk from our school. We decided to choose to film here because it was a easy place to get to and because it had every think we wanted for our film, like a path which will introduce the characters and a large open area which could be used for our fight scene. As well the location had lots of trees which produced a lot of cover and shade which made it look mysterious and unwelcoming.

(initial ideas)

Initial Ideas

These initial ideas will help us create a basic story/plan for our film and what is going to happen. The ideas for a location will help us picture/create the setting for the film which will be located in a small area which has some trees and a small open space. The narrative set up will give us the basic set up of the film which can be changed or developed later on when he come up with the final idea. The initial camera considerations will help us create different scenes and camera shot which could show the location or facial expressions like medium, over the shoulder, low angle and close up camera shots. The representation helps us get ideas for what stereotypes the viewers expect from each ethnicity/race, for example an Asian is represented to be good at martial arts and at technology compared to a white male who is stereotyped to be strong, bold and brave.

(Soundtrack research)

Sound Track

This is apart of our soundtrack which is not copy righted which means we can use it in our film. We liked this music because we thought it will be good to open the story. This music will create tension for the opening credits. We didn't uses this sound track for the whole film because it didn't sound good enough with the rest of the film because the music wasn't as intense then the other one.

This is another part of our sound track which will be added to create tension and excitement through out the opening two minuets. We liked this music because it gave the film a scenes that something was going to happen which made a build up. We used this sound track over the other one because this one had really intense music which we were able to link up with certain parts within the film.

(Media Project Preliminary Task)

Preliminary Task

To film this short clip we were handed one tripod and one camera which was used to film the short clip, the tripod was used to help steady the camera and to keep it in one spot. We adjusted the tripod to the height that we thought was best and then screwed the camera to the tripod, and placed it down on one spot aiming the camera in the direction where we wanted to film the opening part of the clip. After we filmed the first scene we used a editing technique called match cut which is when you film someone walking towards the camera and then change the camera angle so the character is walking away from the camera which can be seen between 1 second and 6 seconds. This editing technique is effective as it makes the viewer feel that you are following the character, as well it makes the scene look smooth and easy to follow. 6 seconds into the clip we also used a close up of the character opening the door and then changed the positioning of the camera so you are able to see the character walk into the room. This is effective because it changes the setting because you get to see the character walk into the room which doesn't then confuse the audience. We then faced the camera at the person sitting at the table which allowed us to also get the other character walking over to his seat. From 14 seconds on wards we then used the 180 degree rule which is a imaginary line which allowed us to have the two characters talking to each other without crossing the line because if we crossed the line it would make it look like the characters are talking to themselves, which will then confuse the audience. Also from 14 seconds on wards we used another editing technique called shot reverse shot which is when we had one character talking and it would then switch to the other character and back again. This allowed us to have both characters talking to each other with out making the camera move across each time one speaks which will make the viewers dizzy.

A couple of things that went well was the way we used the tripod which helped us to keep the camera steady and to focus on the main object in the scene. Another thing that went well was that we were able to add different camera/editing techniques which meant that we could test out different techniques which we could add to our main film. A couple of things that didn't go very well was some of the volume/speech in some of the scenes, we had trouble with the sound because you couldn't really hear our voices during the clips which mean't that we had to re film the scene and make our voices louder so the camera could pick them up. Another problem we had was that we should of used some tape when we did the 180 degree rule because we didn't remember where we had the camera positioned which left us to try to remake the scene.

The software we used to edit this clip was called adobe premier elements 10, we used this to put together all of our filmed clips and to edit them to make it look different to become knowledge able with the different effects and editing techniques. We edited this by cutting down some scenes because will filmed it around 2 seconds before actually moving which gave us time to cut it down to make it look smoother and run better.
