(Friday the 13th analysis)

Friday the 13th Opening Scene

In this opening scene starts off in Camp Crystal Lake in 1958. In the first scene you see a group of teenage/young adults sitting around a camp fire in a cabin in the woods, from the opening couple of seconds it suggests that the group of people are all friends on a summer camping trip. You can tell something bad is going to happen because the camera moves to out side the cabin and then in to a point of view shot which follows the mysterious character around the cabin, this suggests that someone is sneaking around at night and is trying to find some people. While walking through the cabin you see people sleeping in beds and when the person reaches the end of the cabin the camera cuts back to the group which are still at the camp fire, two of them decide to go up stairs to make out which in many horror films turns out to be a bad idea because usually the people the go up stairs first usually die which in this case it happens. When they are making out they hear someone walking into the room so they quickly stop and stand up to see some person looking at them with a weapon, the mysterious person walks up to them both and starts to kill them which leaves them screaming for help but no one can hear them.

Camera Shots and Angles

This camera shot is an establishing shot of the camp which is effective as it shows you the setting of the film and where its mostly going to be set. this suggests that this area is going to be a key location through out the films. This camera shot is also effective as it has the name of the location and the date in text which tells the viewer that there is a possible chance of there being more than one film because of the date, having the text on the screen is effective as it helps people remember the name of the location and how big of a role it is in the film.

This camera shot is a medium shot of a group of characters sitting together next to a fire, this suggests that it is late at night and they are doing things that many people would do when they go camping. This camera shot is also effective as it shows the characters singing and smiling which then suggests that they are having a fun time together in each others company, as well in this image it looks like they have nothing to worry about because they don't know whats happening/who's near them which could cause them trouble/harm in the future.

This camera shot is a close up of a female characters face which is effective because it shows her facial expressions which in this image she looks terrified like shes in danger of losing her life which may link to the camera fading to white. This camera shot is also effective because it suggests that she is under attack from someone and this person could also kill the others who are at the camp as well. The open mouth in this image suggests that she is screaming for help but no one can hear her which means this person killing her is going to probably get away with it.

(Scream analysis)

Opening Scene to Scream

In this opening scene you see a women in a her house and she is alone. The scene starts off with the phone ringing and the women answering it, the caller is a mystery person with a creepy voice which suggests that the women doesn't know who it is and has to be careful with what she does or says. The women and the mystery person talk to each other before she hangs up the phone, when she walks away from the phone it rings again and its the same person. The person rings again to apologize for calling the wrong numbers but insists that she stays on the phone to talk to her but she hangs up again. Later in the scene she is in the kitchen cooking popcorn and the phone rings again and she answers it, the same guy call again but this time she talks to him about their favorite scary movies which are Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street. The guy also talks about if she has a boyfriend which she reply's with "why do you want to ask me on a date" which he reply's with "do you have a boyfriend" again which suggests he knows something about her that shes not telling him. this scene escalates very fast when the guy asks for her name and she asks why and he reply's with "i want to know who i'm looking at" which suggests that he can see her and see can't see him which leaves the women at an disadvantage because she doesn't know where he is. Towards the end of the opening scene the man starts to get angry because she keeps hanging the phone up so he tells her if she hangs the phone up one more time she will be gutted like a fish, and from then on she starts to panic and lock every window and door in her house.

Camera Shots and Angeles

This camera shot is a medium shot of the glass doors of the house looking into the back garden, this is an very effective camera shot because in many horror films the directors leave you to believe that someone is out of the glass door or window and this leaves the viewer to take an hard look out side to see if they can see the man who is phoning her. Which is very effective as it makes the viewer believe that something bad is going to happen to the person inside the house. This camera shot is also effective as you the viewer gets to see if anyone is there before the character which then gives you an advantage over the character.

This camera shot is a semi-over the shoulder shot and a medium shot. This camera shot is effective because it is taken from behind the character which makes the viewer feel that someone is behind her following her around the house which gives the audience an idea that something is going to happen to this women and it isn't going to be good. This camera shot suggests that the women is scared because she is looking around her house in an dark area, which means she is vulnerable to anything in the shadows.

This camera shot is a medium shot of the women after she finds out that the man is threatening her if she hangs up again. This camera shot is effective as it allows you to see the characters facial expressions which are scared in this image which suggests that she doesn't want to be speaking to the person, this also suggests that she is scared because her life is being threatened and she doesn't know what to do. This camera shot is also effective as it shows you that she is looking for the person and she doesn't understand why she if the one who is being attacked.

(creepers jeepers analysis)

Opening Scene to Creepers Jeepers

In this opening scene we see a brother and sister talking to each other while driving their car down a long stretch of road. In the back ground you see a faint blur in the background which is a vehicle, you see the blur in the background getting bigger and bigger which means the vehicle is getting faster and faster trying to catch up with the brother and sister. When the vehicle reaches them it starts to try to ram them off the road which then suggests that he doesn't want them to follow him and then also suggests that the person in the vehicle has something to hide. During the end of the scene you see the vehicle over take the brother and sisters car and rush off into the distance.

Camera Shots and Angles

This camera shot is a medium shot of the brother and the sister in the car with a blurred vehicle in the background. This camera shot is effective as it tells the audience something that the characters don't know, for example the characters in the car can't see the blurred vehicle in the background, another reason why this camera shot is effective because it shows both of the characters which are going to be some of the main characters through out the film which suggests you are going to be following these two from the start to the finish.

This camera shot is a behind the character medium shot of the brother and sister in the car looking behind them at the vehicle which is trying to ram them off the road. This camera shot is effective as it allows you to see the facial expressions of both the characters which from there faces it suggests that they are shocked and confused because this vehicle behind them is trying to knock them off the road for no reason, this also suggests that the people in the car don't want any trouble or anything to do with it. The camera shot is also effective as it shows the inside of the car which suggests that the vehicle behind them in more than double the size and can knock them off easily.

This camera shot is a low angle medium shot of the creepy vehicle behind the car, this is an effective shot because the low angle gives the audience an idea that the vehicle overpowers the car and shows that the vehicle is a threat to the people in the car. This camera shot is also effective because it show the viewer the vehicle which means if the vehicle comes up again later on in the film it means they will be able to recognize it and link it to the vehicle which  tried to stop the brother and sister. As well it means the viewer can represent the vehicle as something bad is going to happen.

(Horror target audience profile)

Target Audience Profile

This is my Target Audience Profile for horror films which is aimed for males and females between the ages of 15 and 29. This should help me create ideas for how i should plan out the horror film and how to get as many views as possible on the film. This will also allow us to get to know the age range better because we know what they are in too and what they like.

(horror film genre analysis)

Horror Mind Map

This is a mind map of horror which has the main conventions of  horror films. Some examples are that many horrors are set in rural/abandon areas that are located in the middle of no where which means no one would be able to hear you scream, also many horror films contain a killer/mass murderer which his mission/aim would be to try to kill everyone. This mind map would give me some crucial ideas on that i could add to make a horror film good as well what i could add to improve an horror film.

(The Dark Knight analysis)

Our Groups Dark Knight Analysis

This clip is our analysis of The Dark Knight which will answer the following questions; What genre indicators are there? What questions are the audience encouraged to ask themselves about the character/narrative? What do we find out? How does the music or ambient sound used and what mood is created? What camera shots stand out for you and what is there effect or appeal?

The Dark Knight Opening Scene

In this opening scene you find out that there are villains that are trying to rob a bank which suggests that this film is going to be a action/crime film because theirs a crime happening it the opening couple of minuets and because there is violence which is occurring, for example guns are being shot which link to violence and crime. We also find out that there is a main villain who is called the Joker which is Batman's antagonist because he always tries to defeat him by telling him to kill him but as Batman doesn't kill he sends him to jail and he always seems to escape. We also see the Jokers men killing off each other because the one who set this up which is the Joker tells them to kill each other so they can get a bigger share of the money. At the end the Joker ends up being at the scene and kills the remaining ones leaving him left, now we know the Joker gets people to help him and then when the job is done he will kill them off and work alone.

Camera Shots and Angles

This camera shot is a high angle aerial shot which shows the whole zip line and the people on it, this also shows the height of the building and how dangerous it is for people that are traveling across it. This is an effective shot because it gives us and idea of how high they are and the consequences which could take place if they fall, which is likely death.

This camera shot is a behind the shoulder shot/medium which shows on of the villains trying to hot wire the control panel and another guy aiming his gun at the back of the person which suggests that he has been told to kill off each person one by one. This is an effective shot as it shows them both in the image and shows us that the guy doesn't know that he is about to be killed. This also shows the person in the back to be blurred out which makes the character harder to recognize.

This camera shot is a close up of the jokers face which is effective as it shows his facial expressions which in this image looks like he is laughing which then links to the name of the character which is the Joker. The close up is also effective as it shows the scars on his face which can represent him as a villain due to the cuts and scars on this face which would then also link to the name Joker, the face paint makes the character look scary because it is scruffy and people usually find clowns/jokers to be scary.

(Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Analysis)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Opening Scene

In this opening scene you see Dumbledore and Professor Minerva McGonagall talking about a baby who's mum and father have just been killed by Voldemort who is the main villain through out the series, he wanted to kill the baby as well but the mother protected him which allowed him to live. The babies name is Harry Potter who is the main character in the film series, he was taken to a house which would be safe for him by Hagrid. When Hagrid arrives at the destination they take the baby up to a house and leave him on the front door with a note on him, when they leave they zoom into the scar on Harry's head which is shaped like a lightning bolt which represents the character.

Camera Shots and Angles

This camera shot is a long shot of the street which they are at with Dumbledore standing at the end of the street, this is effective as it tells the audience how dark it is which suggests they are doing this late at night so no one sees them which would be very bad because the are know how to use magic and if people find out they will be exposed. This is also effective as it tells you that they need to be really careful which suggests why the scene is dark and why he is turning off the street lights.

This camera shot is a low angle medium shot which is effective because it shows us that this character is very important at this moment of time, as well it shows the character riding a motor cycle which is flying which if strange because motor cycles don't fly which would suggest they are using magic. The medium shot shows both the background and the character which helps the viewer picture the scene better. The light is effective as you cant really see the character because it is to dark, which makes the light important because it allows you to see the character and where he is heading.

This camera shot is an intense close up of Harry's scar which is on this forehead, this is effective as it suggests that this scar is going to be very important through out the films. As well the scar suggests that he is going to be well known for having the scar and he will be recognized relatively easily because of it, this means that Voldemort and the other villains will be able to recognize him and attack him when wanted. The close up is also effective as it shows us a image of the character which then allows us to remember him though out the film.

(Mad Max Fury Road analysis)

Mad Max Fury Road Opening Scene Analysis

In this this opening scene you see Max looking over the desert which is mostly flat land without any sign of life. After he is looking over the landscape he quickly jumps into his car and drives off in a hurry because about 10 seconds after leaving that spot you see a couple of scavengers race over the hill and start to chase him, when they reach up to him one of them pulls up beside his car and throws a spear at a wheel of the car leading it to flip off course and crash. When the car stopped flipping Max crawled out of the car to find lots of scavengers breaking down is car and rush over to Max who is on the floor hurt, when captured they take him to their base and cut his hair while giving him a tattoo. Max breaks his way out of the room and starts to find away to escape, while escaping he starts to get flash backs of his daughter which start to scare/through him off course. when Max finds a way out he is forced to jump off a cliff and try to land on a cairn which works but only for a little while because his is pulled back and captured again.

Camera Shot and Angles

This camera shot is a wide medium shot with a low angle which is effective because it allows you to get an image of the character before you can see his face, this is also effective because it shows you the land and the surrounding which gives you an idea of what the whole planet looks like which is mostly just dry land and deserts, as well it suggests that this film is a post-apocalyptic. The low angle shot gives you an idea that the character in the image is a character which has power and then also gives you the idea that this is the character will be the main one which you follow through out the rest of the film.

This camera shot is a medium shot with a wide wide angle which is effective as it shows you what the troubles are on this planet with the scavengers and the harsh conditions which make it harder for the good characters to survive without any hassle. This is also effective because it shows you the different kinds of vehicles that are in the film and what you can expect later on in the film, the wide angle is effective as it shows you the whole area and the characters in the middle with dust in the background to show you where they have been.

This camera shot is a close up which has been taken from under water which is effective because you don't really see under water shots being taken in movies which makes this film better, this under water shot is also effective because it helps you imagine what you would look like when you are taking a picture from under water. The close up of Max's face is also effective because it allows you to see the facial expressions which he is pulling to see how he feels which in this image suggests that he is scared because he doesn't know what is going to happen to him if he is captured again.

(28 weeks later)

28 weeks later

28 weeks later: opening scene

At the start of the scene you see zombies rushing the house and breaking down the door where both Don and his wife are in with a small child which brought the zombies to them. when the zombies break down the door you see Don and his wife get split up on either side of the room which is a bad situation because the zombie is in the middle stopping them reaching each other, they became split because when the were trying to l;eave the room his wife went back to get the child because she didn't want him to get left behind which was very thoughtful because the child isn't even her own. Don had to make a harsh decision and leave his wife in the room with the child because he knew that he couldn't do anything which was shocking because he left his wife to die. when Don left the building he had to keep on running because he had multiple zombies chasing him, while he was running away you could see his wife in the window with shock in her face because he left her to die and she couldn't believe it. when you see his wife disappear you know she has been killed and it was all because he left her which will be with him for ever, also he would have to tell his children that their mother had been killed. reaching the small boat Don knew this would only be his escape option and needed to get it going as soon as possible, while starting the boat his friend was pulled off and killed in front of him meaning that he will be the only one to survive from the house they were at and he will have to make his own way down to London from Scotland.

this image is a close up camera shot of Dons wife's face when she realized that he was going to leave here to die. this camera shot is powerful because it shows how generally shocked she is to find out that he is leaving her with out saying good bye and knowing that they will never meet again. this is also a really good shot because this is the last time Don will see her and this is the face that she is pulling and it shows that she is very angry and surprised that he left her and this will stay in Dons mind and will keep coming up as he was the one to let her die.

this image is a close/medium shot of Dons wife seconds before she dies. this image shows that see still cant get passed that Don left her and isn't coming back to help/save her. this is taken while Don is running away from the house and she is shouting and screaming for him to come back because she still cant believe he has left and she doesn't want it to be true, while he is running the camera keeps going back to her face to tell us that see it is really dramatic and painful for her to watch her husband run away without her.

this image is a medium shot of Dons face and the blurred back ground with zombies running over the hill. this is a good shot because you can see this facial expressions which tell us what he is frightened for his life and doesn't really know what to do. The zombies are disfigured which makes them more scary because you don't know what they look like, this camera shot also makes you feel that you are in the film with him because the camera is running with him which makes it look like you are also with him running.

Opening Scene to The Dark Knight

The opening scene to The Dark Knight is really well done because you are thrown straight into the action where the Jokers men are robbing a bank, from this opening scene i can tell that it is a crime action film because it he bad guys which are causing different kinds of crimes in the city and Batman is going to have to stop them by defeating the boss who is the Joker. The opening scene also suggests that it is a crime action film because it has guards fighting robbers that are try to still the banks money causing death and destructing with full in the action genre because of the fighting and shoot outs between the good guys and the villains. Compared to other crime action films like Sin City the scene is much brighter and full of colours compared to the dark colours in Sin City which are mostly black and white which makes the scene gloomy and miserable. Also the opening scene in Sin City is different because it only has two people compared to the many in The Dark Knight, also in both opening scenes they both include death which is dark. Most crime/action films include a main villain like the Joker and a hero like Batman who fight it out through out the film to see who can last/survive the longest and defeat each other, most of the time the villain would start to win for the first half of the film and then the hero will become strong enough to defeat them leading the film to go into a good ending.

(Introduction)

My favorite  film ever is The Dark Knight because it contains lots of famous actors like Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and Morgan Freeman which make the film even better. This is my favorite film because it has large amounts of actions scenes which appeals to me because i enjoy films which have lots of action in them, for example you are thrown into the action in the fist five minuets where the Joker and his gang rob a bank and then a school bus slams through the wall of the bank for them to escape with the money. Another reason why this is my favorite film is because of the Batman and the Jokers rivalry because the Joker causes bad things to happen which means Batman is forced to go and stop him but the Joker gets into his mind and keeps trying to get Batman to kill him but he doesn't kill which makes it harder for Batman to get the job done.

My favorite director is Christopher Nolan because he has directed films like Inception, Interstellar and The Dark Knight trilogies which were all great films. I like him because he includes lots of action scenes in his films and knows how to create a good story line, for example The Dark Knight trilogies which showed the story of Batman from the beginning to the end.

My favorite genres are Sci-fi (science fiction) and Action/adventure films because they have equal amounts of action and a good story line which can be developed through out the film. I also enjoy comedy films because i like to laugh and relax while watching them with friends. Comedy films that i like are Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Anchorman and The Watch. These are comedy films that i would watch if i'm in mood for a comedy movie. Some action/adventure films that i like are Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, Lord of  the Rings and the Star Wars trilogies which are all good films to me. lastly the Sci-fi films that i enjoy are ET, The Matrix, Gravity and The Terminator.

The last film i watched was a new release in cinemas called Suicide Squad which i really enjoyed because it had actors that i have seen in other films before like Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto who had great roles in the film in my point of view. I also really enjoyed the film because it had lots of action in it like when they were flying a helicopter and they get shot down and then fall to the ground and roles. I also liked it when the characters come together to form a team to fight some creatures that are trying to take over the world, when working together they over come difficulties which take time but towards the end they settle their differences and work as a team to defeat the enemy.

The film that i'm mostly anticipated for is Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 because the first one was a big hit world wide and made a large box office in come of around $773.3 million USD. I'm also anticipated for this film because the director James Gunn has continued to make the next film which means its going to be better than the first film. the director has also directed Scooby-Doo and Dawn of the Dead which were good starting films to promote his directing career and to set him up for the future. The actors also want me to go and see the film because Chris Pratt in the first film was really good and i would want to see how his and all the other characters develop for the next film.
